Godric Cycling Club, Bungay, Suffolk

Why the '50'?

This is the Godric CC’s 50th Anniversary.

The Godric Cycling Club was created in 1953 by Mr George and Mrs Daphne King.

To celebrate this, our half century we have many events planned including an extra special 50th Annual Dinner, Dance and Presentation ceremony with Phil & Pat Ligget to be held on Saturday 15th February. Phil is well known amongst the cycling fraternity from channel 4’s coverage of the Tour De France. Phil is also President of the Cyclist's Touring Club.

On Sunday 22nd June we host the National 50 mile Timetrial on behalf of the East District Cycling Association (EDCA).

Tim Holton is writing a history of the club, which will be published in time for its launch at Bungay Library on Saturday 7th June – The day before the Cyclathon, the 21st and last at which the book will be available for purchase.

The following week, Tuesday June 10th through Saturday June 14th we have an exhibition at Bungay Library to commemorate and celebrate the Godrics' 50th Anniversary at which there will be a display of bikes through the years.

This culminates in the display of the latest technology in the shape of a Low profile cycle with a carbon fibre frame. This makes the frame extremely stiff and therefore minimises the loss of power from the rider by reducing flex. The wheels consist of a disc rear wheel and a deep section front wheel with tyres only 19mm wide. It is driven by 20 gears from a 10 sprocket block with one tooth increments attached to the rear disc wheel and 53/39 chainrings complement the carbon fibre chainset with 180mm cranks. The handlebars, made from aluminium and from the USA have four hand hold positions with integrated gear selector levers mounted furthest forward.

Owned by a local member of the club it has been used regularly for time trials both locally and further afield both within the Eastern region with expectations of use in national events.
